DAYTONA 500 newbie guide. Since I first started blogging one of my “bucket list” posts was Daytona 500. I truly believe that even if you are not into any type of races if you are visiting Florida when such an iconic race is happening you should definitely make an effort to head to Daytona International Speedway and experience it at least once in your life. So imagine my excitement when I receive an email from NASCAR offering me a HOT PASS to attend the event. I’ve been to Daytona 500 multiple times but always for work (ex-promo girl here) Anyway because of all that I thought I was a pro when it comes to the speedway but boy I was wrong! Since this was my first time actually attending the race, here is everything I’ve learned being a newbie.

Eu acredito que mesmo que você não seja muito fã de corridas, se vocês estiver por aqui quando essa corrida super tradicional acontece você não pode perder essa chance. Então imagine os pulinhos de alegria que eu dei quando recebi um email da NASCAR me convidando para a corrida e me dando uma super concorrida credencial HOT PASS. Eu já fui diversas vezes na Dayotona 500, só que sempre a trabalho! Por causa disso eu achei que sabia tudo sobre a corrida e o Dayotona Speedway, mas como eu estava enganada! Já que essa foi a primeira vez que eu fui uma expectadora, aqui está o que eu aprendi.
Leave early
Saia cedo
If you are not staying in Daytona plan to leave extremely early, not only you will need time for parking and walking but you will also want to enjoy the atmosphere before the race, this is actually one of my favorite things! I want to see the fans, grab something to eat and take plenty of pictures. Parking and walking to your entry gate can take up to an hour, you will also need to consider traffic since this is a major sporting event traffic around Daytona International Speedway is expected. To have an idea, I live in Orlando which is about one hour from Daytona. I planned on being at the speedway by 12 pm, so I left at 9 am. It might seem too much but I was inside the UNOH Fanzone by 11:30.
Se você não está hospedado em Daytona planeje sair estremamente cedo para ir ao autódromo. Você não só vai precisar de tempo para estacionar e andar mas uma das melhores coisas é aproveitar a atmosfera anstes da corrida. Essa é uma coisa típica americana que você vai querer ter tempo para ver os fãs, comprar lembrancinhas e tirar muitas fotos. Estacionar o carro e andar até o portão podem levar uma hora, alem disso você tem que considerar o tempo no trânsito já que esse é um dos maiores eventos esportivos do país. Para ter uma idéia eu saí de Orlando ás 9 da manhã porque eu queria estar lá dentro ao meio dia. Daytona fica aproximadamente 1h15 de diståncia de Orlando, o resto foi tempo gasto por lá mesma.

The speedway is a very large venue and you will walk a lot. To all my girls out there, you can be cute and comfortable at the same time. Sneakers are a great option, I chose a boot because they are really comfy but whatever you choose, avoid heels or open toes.
O autódromo é enorme e você vai andar muito, não tem como escapar. Dá para ficar bonita e arrumada sem precisar sacrificar o conforto. Tênis é sempre uma ótima opção, eu escolhi uma bota mas tanto faz o que você decidir evite salto e sandálias.
Bring water and snacks
I was not familiar with Daytona’s International Speedway rules so I didn’t bring anything with me. Big mistake! I would’ve saved a lot of money by packing something for the race. By the rules, everyone can bring their own food and drinks which is awesome and next time I’ll definitely take advantage of that.

Eu não sabia das regras do autódromo então nem pensei em levar nada. Errei feio! Eu teria economizado muito dinheiro se tivesse comprado coisas fora do speedway.
Pelas regras, todos podem entrar com comida e bebidas. A uma da tarde tinham alguns lugares onde a água tinha acabado, seria super útil ter algo comigo e dá próxima vez eu vou levarmais coisa.
Food
This is something that definitely worries me every time I go to any sporting event. Since I’m pescatarian, it’s not that easy to find something to eat but they had lots of vendors around I was able to find some great options

Essa é uma coisa que sempre me preocupa em qualquer evento esportivo, quem tem qualquer restrição alimentar por escolha ou necessidade sabe do que eu estou falando. Com relação a isso o autódromo dá uma show! Tem várias opções .
Dress for the weather
This time of the year if Florida feels more like spring than winter. Days can be really hot but you might still need a light jacket in the mornings/ evenings.
Se vista para a estação
O inverno na Florida é bipolar, mas geralmente essa época do ano está mais para primavera do que para inverno. Calor e sol forte durante o dia mas você ainda vai precisar de uma jacketa de manhã/ noitinha.
Parking
Daytona International Speedway offers free parking, this year was at lot 7 and from there you can take a 12 minutes shuttle ride to the speedway, with that said that lot might be full when you arrive if that happens, do NOT pay a fortune for parking. We saw places charging $80 for parking, it’s not worth it. You can find $10 – $20 parking if you are willing to walk 10 extra minutes. Seriously though with the money you save you can even get an Uber if you are not willing to walk.
Estacionamento
O Daytona International Speedway oferece estacionamento gratuíto em um dos lotes, de lá você pega um ônibus. Agora com a quantidade de pessoas que vão nesse evento da para imaginar que o estacionamento gratuito acaba rapidinho, foi o que aconteceu comigo, se isso acontecer com você NUNCA pague uma fortuna pelo estacioamento. Nós vimos lugares cobrando $80! Você consegue achar estacionamento por $10-$20 se estiver disposto a andar uns 10 minutos a mais.

UNOH Fanzone
Do invest in some UNOH Fanzone tickets, you’ll have a blast before the race! You will have the opportunity to see the cars and drivers from up close, walk on the track, watch a concert and see the victory lane. Honestly to me, the Fanzone is a MUST it will add a lot to your race experience.

Esse é um ingresso extra mas vale muito a pena! Com esse ingresso você vai ter acesso aos carros, pilotos, show que acontece antes da corrida, celebração no final da corrida e até pode andar na pista do autodromo antes da corrida começar! Sério vale muito a pena e vai fazer essa esperiência ser ainda mais inesquecível.
